Privacy Policy

The following are the terms under which data collected by WyrmrestAccord.org and its services (hereafter referred to as "the website") may be used. This is an agreement between the visitor (hereafter referred to as "you" or other appropriate pronouns) and WyrmrestAccord.org and its staff (hereafter referred to as "we" or other appropriate pronouns) regarding collected data.

If you do not agree with any of these terms, you may choose to not access this website again -- there is no other option.

We collect the following information automatically for logging purposes:

These logs are stored for an indeterminate amount of time (usually about a week), and may be deleted when space or other concerns arise. We collect the following private information when a new account is created:

  • A password chosen by you to access the website
  • Your e-mail address
  • Statement recording that you have read and agree to all the official documents (including, but not limited to, terms of service, this privacy policy, and the website rules)

This collected data is kept privately (and passwords are not stored in a readable format) and is only used for verification and communication purposes. We will never sell or give away any of this privately-kept information without a court order. We will only use the e-mail address provided by you to contact you (including automated messages such as password reminders) regarding your use of the website.

We consider the following to be public information whenever it is collected, and do nothing to protect it from the general population:

  • Submitted content (including, but not limited to, blog posts, forum topics, comments, replies, character sheets, and calendar events)
  • Optional user profile fields (including, but not limited to, profile pictures, signatures, MSN Messenger IDs, Yahoo! Messenger IDs, and external website links)
  • Submitted mature content (despite being walled off from casual viewing, this is not private information)

We do nothing to prevent the general public from accessing any of this data, and recommend you only provide information which you desire to make public to the world at large.

We consider the following to be private information whenever it is collected:

  • Time, date, and recipient of a private message
  • The contents of a private message

This collected data is kept privately, and will not be sold or given away without a court order. We do not hold any authority over the recipient of a message, and do not guarantee their keeping your privacy and confidence. This data may also be used by the administration in cases of disputes or abuses of the system. Do not use private messages for truly sensitive information.

Applying to all of the collected information specified above (and any incidental collection of other unspecified data) are the following terms:

  1. We make significant effort to keep what we consider to be private data secure. However, any express or implied warranties are disclaimed. We cannot make guarantees about the safety of any data, and recommend not transmitting anything you are extremely concerned about the privacy of over the internet.
  2. We have no authority over the usage of public data by other users of the service, and you agree that we cannot be held accountable for any usage of public data.
  3. Any data collected may be held indefinitely (including potentially being restored to the live website after deletion) in archives and backups. We keep these to help insure the best data integrity we can, however this means nothing is ever truly deleted, and you should be, again, cautious about what you submit to a public website.
  4. We reserve the right to make use of any of the collected information in conjunction with law enforcement officers when illegal activities are taking place (including, but not limited to, harassment, threats, and stalking).

This Privacy Policy may change at any time. Notification of major changes will be publicly posted on the website in the Site News and Announcements subforum, it is recommended you regularly check that forum for any updates.
