Vallindra sighed as she took a seat on her couch. “Aeramin, it’s late. Why do you come bother me with questions that you already know the answer to?”
Aeramin frowned slightly, remaining standing, “I was hoping to change your mind. I don’t think I’m going to be able to change his.”
Vallindra frowned as well. She knew Aeramin was likely right about that. “I’m not asking you to change his mind. I’m sure mother and father won’t mind when he’s older. All I’m asking is that you make sure he doesn’t go now. I’m relying on you, Aeramin. You’re his best friend, and he’ll listen to you more than he will his sister.”
Aeramin shifted his weight from one foot to the other, and twitched an ear. “I’m not sure he’ll listen to me either. I don’t think he wants to wait until he’s older.” She nodded slightly as he spoke. The frown on her face was still deep. “Perhaps it would be best to let him go with someone.”
“Let him go? Are you insane? If mother ever found out…”
“Who’s going to tell her?” He interrupted. She allowed him to continue. He was mad if he thought her mother would go easily on anyone letting her ‘baby’ come into harms way. “You could take him, or myself. He would be safe with one of us to guide and protect him while he’s there.”
She looked him up and down. “You’re barely out of your apprenticeship yourself, and…”
“I passed my exams with exceptional results. I know enough to recognize possible danger when I see it as well. He would be perfectly safe with me if you are unwilling to go.”
She twitched an ear. How did they go from discussing changing his mind, to going along with his half-witted plan to visit the shrines? Mother would kill her if she knew Vallindra was even considering it. “I knew nothing of this if anything happens.” She stated flatly. “You’ll have to go with him. Keep him safe. It’ll be on you if any harm comes to him. I want to know when you’re going, and I want to hear back from you as soon as you return.”
Aeramin nodded. “We’ll probably go to the green tomorrow then. He’s been making plans that I keep trying to stop. He’ll be happy to finally go.”
Vallindra twitched an ear as she got up to show him to the door. “As soon as you’re back. You find a way to let me know. I’ll be waiting to hear how it went.”
Aeramin nodded again. “I will. Thank you. Goodnight.” He said while stepping out.
“Goodnight.”
